Mr Stein looks as if he makes stronger stuff than wine
Christie and Stacey interviewed Mr Stein, the Parklands executive officer.
How long have you been at Parklands?
Three years.
Where did you come from and what job did you do?
South Africa where I used to be a bank director .
Why did you come here?
I interrupted my corporate life and went to Stellenbosch University to study wine making. I achieved a BSc in science. Then my study showed me that my best location, for climate, growing conditions and way of life was in the Nelson district.
What would be a usual days work?
Phonecalls, Student requests and Accounting in the morning, Injuries at lunch and Accounting in the afternoon.
Which parts do you enjoy the most?
Interacting with students and teaching them a sense of humor
Are there any parts you don't enjoy, If so what are they?
GETTING UNDER PAID!!! I like the rest!
What do you do in your spare time?
Grow grapes to make wine (10,000 bottles a year!!) The whole process takes five years! My winery and vineyard are in Batchelor Ford Road.
What do you hope to be doing ten years from now?
Full time wine making
What has been the highlight of your job here?
Making a contribution to the financial side of building a good pool
