PEOPLE THAT HELP US !


Mr Major interviewed by John and Kendall!
1. How long have you been at Parklands?
I first came as a teacher nearly 20 years ago.

2. Where did you come from and what job did you do?
Firstly I was a teacher at Mahana school. Secondly I was teaching at Parklands in room 13 to year 2's. While I was there I was called a senior teacher, in charge of the library.

3. What would be a usual days work?
Firstly I would get here at 7 o'clock A.M. and check the E-mails. Then on some days at 8 o'clock there would be staff meetings. Once school starts I would check the mail. Next I would be writing letters, showing new families around the school, class visits or other meetings.

4. Which parts do you enjoy the most
I enjoy visiting classes. I enjoy good things to write for the news letter and showing new families around.

5. Are there any parts you don't enjoy. What are they?
I don't enjoy bad behaviour. I don't like too many interruptions.

6. What do you do in your spare time?
Play squash, ride my motorbike, and doing my garden.

7. What do you hope to be doing ten years from now?
I hope to be retired, travel around the world, and do volunteer work at Parklands.
8. What has been a highlight of your job here?
The new swimming pool.

Christie and Stacey interviewed Mr Stein, the Parklands executive officer.

How long have you been at Parklands?

Three years.

Where did you come from and what job did you do?

South Africa where I used to be a bank director .

Why did you come here?

I interrupted my corporate life and went to Stellenbosch University to study wine making. I achieved a BSc in science. Then my study showed me that my best location, for climate, growing conditions and way of life was in the Nelson district.

What would be a usual days work?

Phonecalls, Student requests and Accounting in the morning, Injuries at lunch and Accounting in the afternoon.

Which parts do you enjoy the most?

Interacting with students and teaching them a sense of humor

Are there any parts you don't enjoy, If so what are they?

GETTING UNDER PAID!!! I like the rest!

What do you do in your spare time?

Grow grapes to make wine (10,000 bottles a year!!) The whole process takes five years! My winery and vineyard are in Batchelor Ford Road.

What do you hope to be doing ten years from now?

Full time wine making

What has been the highlight of your job here?

Making a contribution to the financial side of building a good pool
